How do you choose the subject of a novel so that it speaks to young readers?

"Writing a book always starts with a personal questioning. The form comes later, depending on the readers for whom my novel is intended. The question that bothered me as an adult being universal, I bet that it would interest younger people too.

In my family, and around me, the relationships between fathers and sons were damaged, even non-existent, marked by absent fathers, fathers walled up in silence or placing very heavy demands on the shoulders of their sons.
